CPM S90V Steel Chemical composition
- Carbon 2.30%: Enhances edge retention, hardness, and tensile strength. It increases steel resistance to wear and abrasion as well as corrosion.
- Chromium Cr 14.0%: Formation of Chromium carbide Increases hardness and tensile strength, as well as corrosion resistance.
- Molybdenum Mo 1.0%: It increases machinability and hardness.
- Vanadium V 9.0 %: It increases wear resistance and toughness, and it also improves corrosion resistance. Vanadium Carbide is formed when vanadium levels are high. This gives S90V steel a competitive edge in terms of wear resistance.
- Tungsten W 0.4% Improves wear resistance and hardness and is most commonly added to tool steel.
- Manganese Mn 0.500%: Increases hardness and brittleness.
- Silicon Si 0.50%: Increases strength and heat resistance.
- Phosphorous P 0.033%: Enhances steel strength and resists corrosion but can be considered harmful if used in excess.
- Sulfur S 0.033%: Although sulfur can improve machinability, it is usually considered an impurity and is therefore added in small quantities.
CPM S90V steel properties
CPM S90V hardness ranges from 57 to 59HRC according to the Rockwell Hardness Scale. This is higher than soft steels that have hardness levels between 54 and 54HRC. Its hardness increases its edge retention, wear resistance, and strength.
